Mangalore: Bishop Confers ‘PRO Ecclesia Et Pontifice’ on Wilfy Rebimbus Posthumously

Mangalore, Jun 13: Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza conferred the title ‘PRO Ecclesia Et Pontifice’, awarded by Pope Benedict XVI, on Konkani Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus posthumously on Sunday June 13, during the Holy Mass held at Milagres Church in the evening.
The special honour has been given to Wilfy for his love towards the Holy Church and his extraordinary musical contributions to the Konkani community worldwide.
The Bishop awarded the title to Meena Rebimbus, wife of Wilfy Rebimbus, at the altar before beginning the Holy Mass.
St Joseph’s parish priest Fr Andrew D’Souza, diocesan vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, and many priests arrived from across the diocese to co-celebrate the Holy Mass with Bishop D’Souza.
The Bishop and Fr Andrew both lauded the contributions of Wilfy over nearly five decades.
They said that his songs had a message for the Konkani community telling them to reform and embrace change. They added that his love for Konkani and strong conviction for its sustenance was depicted in all his songs.
The parish community of St Joseph’s Church, Jeppu, rejoiced in the great honour bestowed on Wilfy who was one of them.
The families of Vishwas Rebimbus and Veena Rebimbus, and a large number of well-wishers were present on the occasion.
