Minister Janaradhan Reddy to Launch World Konkani Convention on Jun 20

Mangalore, Jun 15: Mandd Sobhann, the premier Konkani cultural organization, on the occasion of its silver jubilee will hold First World Konkani Cultural Convention from November 25 to December 19.

The Launching Ceremony (Muhurta) of this great event will take place at St Joseph’s Indian High School Auditorium, Bangalore on Sunday June 20 at 6.00 pm. Minister for tourism B Janardhan Reddy will be the chief guest. Dr P Dayananda Pai, chairman, Konkani Bhas ani Sanskratik Pratisttan will be the guest of honour, while convention reception committee chairman Ronald Colaco will preside.

As part of cultural programme at the ceremony, songs and dances of Goa by Goenchi Neketram, Saleete, Goa led by Marianela Jina Mascarenhas Dias and her world famous troupe will be showcased.    

Grand Konkani Cultural Extravaganza

The 25-day cultural festival will have participation of more than 60 Konkani troupes consisting of more than 1,000 artistes belonging to various castes, creeds, dialects and regions of Konkani and present Konkani folk, theatre, musical and dance performances. 

There will also be a Konkani film festival, youth festival, art festival, Kavita fest, Konkani bazaar, competitions in Konkani games, costumes and cuisine as well as other world-level events. In all 25 institutions or individuals from around the world, who have enriched Konkani culture will be honoyed at the world convention. 

The second Global Konkani Music Awards and the sixth Carvalho Gharaane – Thomas Stephen’s Konkani Kendr Kalaakar Puraskaar will be presented. Seminars on various aspects of Konkani culture will also be held.

The grand event will also see the celebration of Mandd Sobhann Founders’ Day, a memorial to the organizations’ inspirations, who have passed away.

Ronald Colaco, chairman, world convention, Eric Ozario, Gurkaar, Mandd Sobhann, Louis J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, Stany Alvares, co-ordinator, Mandd Sobhann and Arun Raj Rodrigues, public relations officer, Mandd Sobhann were present at the press meet.

    With due respect to the organisers of the event, what Minsiter Readdy has to due with kokani? There are no emminent kokans to grace this occasion?
    Kokani language is stretching from Kasargod to Maharastra?
