Udupi: M’lorean Greeshma to Represent India in Int’l Women’s Football Tourney

Udupi, Jun 17: Eighteen-year old Greeshma Shetty, a native of Padubidri, near here and II PUC student of St Andrew’s College, Bandra (West), Mumbai has been selected as a goal-keeper to represent Maharashtra team in the forthcoming National women’s football tournament.
Meanwhile, Greeshma Shetty has also been selected as a goal keeper to represent Indian women’s football team in the under 19 World Youth Cup – Gothia Cup – 2010, which will be held in Sweden and Denmark from July 12 to July 23.
Greeshma Shetty is the daughter of Harish Shetty and Katpady Samraddi Latha Shetty, residing at Padubidri, near here. Greeshama’s father Harish had been a goal keeper in the football team when he was studying at Vijaya College, Mulky, near here. Harish has inspired his daughter to take up football.
Greeshma was a captain of Maharashtra women’s football team both under 17 and 19. It was her excellent performance as a goal keeper of Maharashtra women’s football team that played in the national football tournament held recently at Ahmedabad, qualified her to represent India in international tournament.
She is multi-talented who takes equal interest in cultural activities and studies. She has bagged many trophies in annual sports meets during her studies at school. She excelled as a goal keeper in district-level basket ball and hockey tournaments too.
Greeshma has been a distinguished artist, who bagged second prize in All India Painting Competition. Her hobbies include western dance and Bharatanatyam.
