Udupi, Jun 17: The ATM that was stolen from the NRI branch of the SBI at Kinnimulky in the wee hours on Sunday June 13 was recovered by the police from a bush near the defunct Brahmavar Sugar Factory, near here, at 10.00 am on Thursday June 17.
Passers-by noticed the ATM with its loosened parts all over a bush on Thursday morning and informed the police who then recovered it.
The cash of about Rs 15 lac which the SBI branch officials claim to have loaded into the ATM, was stolen by the thieves who seem to have good knowledge of the working of ATMs.
This one weighed nearly a half ton. The thieves had unplugged the entire unit before loading it onto a getaway mini truck.
Meanwhile, the police are verifying the data of account holders who conducted transactions at the stolen ATM on Saturday June 12 upto the wee hours of Sunday June 13 till it was stolen, in an effort to trace the thieves.
Police sources informed that their teams are leaving for Bangalore to explore the possibility of the involvement of a gang who had committed a similar theft in the metro recently.
