Mangalore: KIADB Initiates Steps to Acquire Remaining Land from Patrao

Mangalore, Jun 18: Even as organizations have started staging a protest by way of hunger strike from morning to evening every day in front of the office of the district deputy commissioner here from Thursday June 17 onwards, Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has taken steps to acquire the remaining seven acres of land in Kalavaru village that is still in Gregory Patrao’s possession.
KIADB has, besides depositing a sum of Rs 69 lac as compensation in the High court for the land proposed to be acquired, also has issued a notification for acquiring the said land. Out of 14.27 acres of land Gregory owns, 6.99 acres of land was taken into possession by KIADB in an operation on April 28 this year. Sources said that the actual acquisition of this land might take place after Gregory harvests the crop grown in this agricultural field.
KIADB has said that all the 108 items it took over on April 28 from Gregory’s place have been stored in a house in Permude village, rented from Yadav Kotian. Officials said that the things will remain there till Gregory’s rehabilitation procedures are completed. As Patrao refused to take the key to the house, it has been handed over to Permude gram panchayat, they revealed.
