Mangalore: Workers’ Association Celebrates Dr B R Ambedkar’s 119th Birth Anniversary

Mangalore, Jun 20: The Dakshina Kannada Paura Karmika and Fourth Class Workers’ Association organized the 119th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr B R Ambedkar at the Town Hall on Saturday June 19.
Udupi MP Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the programme and said that it was a sacred event where all the citizens of the country should participate.
“Gandhiji’s dreams of equality and abolishing untouchability were brought into force by Dr Ambedkar. Whatever projects and works you handle, I will give all my support in fulfilling them”, he added.
Shivanand Kumar, president, Paura Karmika and Fourth Class Workers’ Association, said that MCC has funds for the backward and poor.
“It has Rs 5 lac for emergency hospitalization, Rs 8 lac for education, and Rs 1 lac for the death rituals for the worker in the association. For professional courses Rs 5 lac and many other funds are available for the benefit of the people of the association”, he added.
Madhav Bhandary, chairman, Mangalore Urban Development Authority, presided over the programme. MLA U T Khader, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Dr K N Vijaya Prakash, Shashidhar, chief secretary, State Paura Karmika Workers’ Association, Jayaram Bangalore, corporator Appi, president Dakshina Kannada Paura Karmika and Fourth Class Workers’ Association Siddappa, MCC assistant health officer Ragunath, former Mayor Narayan, and former Mayor Shashadhar Hegde were also present.
The programme was followed by an awards ceremony, dance competition, mimicry by Taslima, and a variety of cultural events which enteratained the gathering.
