Bengaluru, Feb 12: High court granted conditional bail to the former mayor of the city Sampath Raj, who is the main accused in the riots that occurred at KG Halli and DJ Halli.

The judicial bench of HC, which undertook the inquiry of the bail application of Sampath Raj, gave the order for conditional bail.

Sampath Raj was accused of instigating his supporters to set the house of MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy on fire during the riot that occurred under the limits of DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits.

The former mayor who later went underground was arrested by the police and handed over to judicial custody by the police.

Home minister Basavaraj Bommai called Raj's arrest a 'major development'.

At present, he is lodged at the Parappana Agrahara prison in the city.

Back on August 11, 2020, MLA Murthy's nephew Naveen Kumar had posted a controversial post on Facebook, which led to around 3,000 to 4,000 people gathering and indulging in arson and looting in DJ Halli and KG Halli police limits. To control the mob, the police even had to open fire, which caused the death of at least four people.

Sampath Raj is proved beyond doubt that allegations against him doesn’t qualify to convict him. As it is police also dragged thier feet to arrest him and gave a long leash to escape. Now, as per Yeddy’s promise to ban SDPI and PFI is becoming obscure day by day and efforts are made to conveniently forget it. Again, BJP sticks firmly to its tradition and culture of it doesn’t do what it promises and vice versa to meet its ulterior motive.
