Mangaluru, Feb 17: Chairman of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority, Ravishankar Mijar inaugurated the Student Council and association of MAPS College, here, on Wednesday February 17 at the college campus.

Addressing the gathering, Ravishankar Mijar said, "When I look at the student council, I recall my earlier days. Leadership quality is needed in any profession, even after passing out of college, it helps in growth. If you have leadership qualities you will achieve your goal one particular day. Have ambitions in life that should be carried throughout. Honesty, hard work and time-consciousness are the three ingredients you must have to be good citizens. Show your positiveness in your leadership so that you create a new history in your life. Today, we have a lot of diversity among the student community as we see victims of the drug menace. The Punjab per capita income was high, but today it has come down drastically due to the drug menace, where youngsters have lost their zeal for employment to perform better in life.

General manager of corporate communications, MRPL, Dr Rudolph Noronha said, "We have premium institutions par excellence. I must appreciate the effort of chairman Dinesh Kumar Alva in building this institution brick by brick and getting it to where it is today. When I look at the activities in the college I see passion behind the planned activities of the college."

The chairman of MAPS group of institutions, Dinesh Kumar Alva said, "This is the 15th student council. In 2006, the college was established and in 2010 BCom started with integrated CA. In the last 10 years, 68 students passed CA which is a very good and proud moment for us. The student council is a bridge between the faculty and students. They must know what is right and wrong. They should draw a line and not cross that line, contribute toward the growth of the college. The activities planned throughout are to build their leadership qualities."

The principal-in-charge of the college, Prabhakar Neermarga welcomed the gathering, student council president, Aaditya Prabhu M proposed the vote of thanks and Akshatha Shenoy compered the programme.

PU principal-in-charge, Arpita Soans, principal Shruthi Shetty, student welfare officer Kavitha, student council vice-president Elna Anil, Devika Prabhu secretary M Shibani, cultural secretary Subi Sunil, vice-president of sports Srijith S Punja were also present.
