Mangaluru, Feb 18: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are selling inferior quality parboiled rice, stated minister Kota and MLA S Angara. "The people buy the lower quality parboiled rice from ration shops, sell it in open markets and buy better quality red rice. Rice is not available in some ration shops. As criminal cases are being registered against people selling inferior quality rice, the required rice should be procured directly from the farmers and distributed in the ration shops,” the ministers requested the chief minister.
The Dakshina Kannada district requires 58,000 quintals of rice and Udupi needs 40,000 quintals of rice. The chief minister, who received the request, has assured that the problem will be solved and that he will direct the minister of food and civil supplies and concerned officials.
Minister of food and civil supplies, Umesh V Katti, the fisheries minister, S Angara, state food federation vice president Kiran Kodgi, MLAs Umanath Kotian, Sanjeeva Matandoor in the meeting held in the office of minister Kota Srinivas Poojary decided to conduct a meeting in the presence of officials of the twin districts regarding the purchase of paddy, its processing and distribution.
Officials of the department of food and civil supplies and deputy director of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts were present.
