Kasargod, Feb 24: A young couple that had doused their bodies with kerosene before torching themselves in a rented home at Payyanur in the district, lost their lives at the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital here on Tuesday, February 23.

Shivaprasad (28), son of T Ravi from the West Elery district, and Arya (21), daughter of Rajan from Maranjiri, Ailott, lost their lives in this fashion. The two had ignited the fire to burn themselves to death on the evening of February 19. They were admitted into the hospital with severe burn injuries. Arya lost her battle for life on the night of February 22 while Shivaprasad breathed his last on February 23.

Shivaprasad, who was employed, and Arya, a Hindi degree student, were in love with each other. The family of the girl however were making preparations to perform Arya's marriage with another boy. The engagement ceremony of Arya was fixed for February 21. Arya, who came out of her classroom after partly attempting her Hindi examination paper on February 19, went to the rented house of Shivaprasad with him. Once there, both poured kerosene on themselves and set themselves ablaze.

A letter written by Shivaprasad about their decision to end their lives has been recovered by the police. Payyanur police have registered a case and begun an investigation.

At the end they are one who face life. Let them live as they like each other other than marrying and divorcing the one whom they don't like.

How sad.the girl and boy should have faced the life otherway than to torch themselves. Both were adults.Girl should have gone against the parents that she would not marry the boy she chose but the boy she loved.Could have gone to police and seek help .If nothing functioned could have gone another place and marry and start a new life. They never won here anything by their action but only loss every side Parents have now lost their children sadly and may now feeling bad for their action?Love ended with a sad point.May their souls rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to the families.

It is really tragic. RIP. In 21st century powered with literacy, tech n digital innovations and connectivity, we were supposed to progress to the future which was socially equitable, ecologically harmonious, tolerant, vibrant and financially empowered, with personal enhancement with spiritual, cultural and traditional improvements. Regrettably and unfortunately, we are walking into a reverse path. Oppression, discrimination, injustice, intolerance, might is right, greed is the path we have chosen. There is some level of good life which is making us blind to what is happening around. Dont blame the families alone, they are part of the society. Our generation has set a path towards destruction. Some are part of it, overwhelming population is silent about it, the guys who try to bring sanity gets ridiculed and harassed to the worse. Hope we change course before it is too late.

Rip! If the girl's family was knowing about their relationship, they should have taken her into confidence before proceeding with her marriage elsewhere!

What a tragic populace we Indians are. Our leaders are busy condemning valentine's day. Inter caste, inter religion, inter state, inter anything marriages are condemndd as though language of love is through our fascists minds. We haveno intelligence or maturity to stop rapes, abuses, harassment. Our administration is busy arresting intellectuals or persons who have clarity to speak their mind. Mother nature's wrath is on us. We will face more and more heart wrenching stories because we have belittled humanity and have glorified atroicity.

Dr Kamath,, it is is to die than face the society in certain cases where the parents are so adamant that they will kill one of them or both.. One should be really lucky to get married to the girl or boy whom she or he loves.. It is all fate..RIP to both

Saad indeed ! Both were grown up adults and they took a calculated step to finish with their lives. Is that mad love or blind love ? In love one is inspired to live longer for each other but here they chose a bad blind action. Zindagi ke saath bi aur zindagiki bad bi
