Bengaluru, Feb 26: Mines and geology minister Murugesh Nirani on a visit to Hutti Gold Mines Ltd in Raichur district on Friday said the state government plans to double the gold production from the state-owned company.

Nirani said Hutti Gold Mines will be modernised and a blueprint was already prepared.

“The gold production was reduced due to COVID-19 pandemic but now it is rebounding. This was possible due to the efforts of officials and people’s representatives,’’ Nirani said.

The minister was addressing the media after inspecting the Hutti Gold Mines at Lingsugur taluk in the Raichur district.

He also held a meeting with the officials of Hutti Gold Mines and reviewed the progress and mining activities.

Warning the errant officials, the minister said those who fail to discharge their duties would face the music.

“We have been receiving repeated complaints against some officials over their involvement in illegal mining activities. The government will initiate strict disciplinary action against such officials,’’ warned Nirani.

Return hoarded explosives within four weeks

Toughening the position following recent incidents, the mines and geology minister asked the owners of stone quarries to return explosive items hoarded illegally within four weeks.

The minister warned of cancelling the licences if quarry owners fail to return explosives.

“Officials have been instructed to conduct an inspection and retrieve illegally hoarded explosive items in mining areas. Licences of those who fail to report and return the explosives will be cancelled,’’ Nirani said.
