We are shocked at the sudden death of Konkani Sahitya Samrat' Victor Rodrigues, Angelore. Victor has been a great son of Konkani Mai. No doubt. As an Asst. Editor of NAMAN BALLOK JESU monthly magazine my acquaintance with him has been not for long. But within that short time he has influenced my life in varied ways. Though a great writer he remained simple and humble. His humility in knowing and learning things at this age is marvelous. His devotion to Infant Jesus is remarkable. Almost every day he used to make a visit to the Shrine and without fail used to meet one or the other Priest here and go.

On behalf of the Editorial Board and the Readers Family of NAMAN BALLOK JESU I pray that his soul rest in peace and Heartfelt condolences to Rodrigues family.

And now, I used to read his life in Bahrain and back home, first as soon as the postman delivered "Dirven" weekly. A BRAVE WRITER. Never used to play "Hide and Seek" in writing about any Relegious leader or anyone. I salute him for writing "as it is", viz. wrong is wrong! Our sincere condolenses to his beloved wife and kids.

This year has been quite saddening for Konkani. We lost music maestro Wilfy Rebimbus earlier and now another legend has left us. Victor Rodrigues' demise has left a huge void in Konkani circles. He was a simple, down-to-earch personality who was available for anyone. I grew up reading his legendary novels in 'Poinnari' and in those days he was perhas the only reason why we eagerly waited 'Poinnari' to arrive by post. Any delay in delivery meant that the postman was on the receiving end. My first Konkani write-up "Infant Jezuk Income Kiteak' that appeared in Kannik not only gave an identity to me, but it also brought me in personal touch with Victor Rodrigues who infact edited this article first before giving it to Maurice D'Sa. I met him at Saccidananda, Capuchin Provincialate in Bangalore along with Fr Santhosh Menezes. I was taken aback by his simplicity especially after having carved a niche for himself in Konkani. Over the years after I based myself in Mangalore we have been in constant touch with him. My last meeting with him was during my holidays at the beginning of this year. He was ailing but his spirit was still bright. His desire to contribute more to Konkani had not faded till his last breath. Victor Baab, you are no more with us. But you will never cease to vanish from our hearts as you have left behind a great treasure in Konkani literature. May the Almighty accept you in His Kingdom of peace and serenity and give your loved ones the strength to bear this loss.
