Bengaluru, Mar 4: The department of public instruction has written to the government seeking permission to resume physical classes for standards 1 to 5.

The department has noted that other than the radio-transmitted lessons under the programme, 'Naliyutha Kaliyona' these children are not being taught anything. Private schools have been conducting online classes, pre-recorded video classes etc. As it is necessary to evaluate the performance of the children and to hold examinations for the academic progress of the students, the department has requested the government to permit it to hold classes for these students too.

The children between first to ninth standard were promoted without any examination last time. The department of educational research and training has already issued guidelines to hold examination and evaluation this time. Accordingly alternative teaching and unit examinations are held for the students from sixth to tenth standards. Similar evaluation is needed for the students studying up to fifth standard too, the department stated while requesting for permission as above.

Commissioner in the department, V Anbukumar, confirmed that such a request seeking government's permission to open standard 1 to 5 has been submitted and that the government is expected to respond positively after getting advice from the committee of COVID experts.
