Grammys Change Rules Gaga Ineligible for New Artist Award

Washington, Jul 8 (DPA): The Recording Academy announced Wednesday that it will expand the eligibility for the best new artist Grammy category, after fame monster Lady Gaga was prevented from nomination this year.

Under the new rules, artists who were previously excluded because they had been nominated for singles or collaborations can still compete for best new artist.

"Every year, we diligently examine our awards process to ensure that it remains relevant within the current musical landscape," said Neil Portnow, president and chief executive of the Recording Academy.

The New York pop artist was ineligible for the best new artist award this year even though she otherwise would have qualified because her single, Poker Face, had been up for the best dance recording in the previous year.

Since her first nomination, Lady Gaga has reached multi-platinum album status and attracted millions of starstruck fans.
