Mangalore, Jul 8: A team of the state food and civil supplies department led by its deputy director, Vrishabharajendra Murty, raided a spot in Vidyanathanagar behind Lord Vaidyanatheshwara Temple at Kudkolitota, Attavar, here on Thursday July 8 and confiscated nine LPG cylinders, 15 auto kits with a capacity of 5.5 kgs each, and a spring scale from the spot.

The spot where the illegal refilling unit was located is covered by trees and bushes. Those involved with the activity had cleared the bushes in an area and erected a tent there for conducting refilling activity. The seized cylinders include eight belonging to Bharat Gas and three to Konkan Gas,  the other being a commercial cylinder.

Even though no one was at the spot when the team raided it, some marks created by moving vehicles were found, but because of heavy rain, most of the marks were obliterated. The department has registered a police case against the people living in a house located adjacent to the above spot.

The raid was conducted under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Ponnuraj. The team members included assistant director of the department, Suresh Rao, and inspectors, Devappa, Vasu Shetty, Moosa Kunhi and Ganesh Alva.

These unusual racket of refilling cooking gas to commercial purposes has led to so many fire accidents recently, cooking gas cylinders are also used in cars which is against the law and not safe until it is equipped with a external NON RETURN VALVE (NRV)at the cylinder itself which prevents the flame from igniting the cylinders, to some extend which so happend with some MARUTI VANS recently. The R.T.O should keep a watch on such male practices to avoid such dangerous accidents and HUMAN LIFE.

It is a pity that a officer of the rank of District Magistrate and deputy commissioner has to go behind criminals like the one shown here. It looks that Mr Ponnuraj has become victim of his own descion making- He directed Gregory's House to be demolished without having proper court order. It was illegal. The DC supporting Lawlessness? I bet for Ponnuraj It will be impossible to contain this kind crimes without setting his own house in order. To have power is to work for people and not against them. One of the Draconian officer the district has seen who uses law only to trouble people and not help them.

From where these people were able to procure steady supply of subsidised gas, when we face many hardships like-produce ration cards every other year, book a refill only after 21days, which will be delivered after 10 to 15 days afterwards & if sometimes we are not in our house it is taken back & delviered after 10 days, which means we recieve a refill once in 45 days sometimes. I think Honest consumers have to put up with these hardships- while some insiders provide these crooks cylinders out of turn.
Some people use only for light cooking-which extends their requirement for atleast 3 or 5 months. I think these surplus unused cylinders are diverted for a premium for these activities it seems.

Dangerous practice to manipulate/refill gas cylinders and again use commercial gas for autos. In the picture, there is an appartment/building across the inhabitants of which could have seen this unusual racket going on and informed the police...
