Bengaluru, Mar 16: The Karnataka Skill Development Authority (KSDA) held an interactive session with sector skill councils in which all the Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) from all over the country for explaining their approach in the Country and Karnataka for skill development in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The chairperson of KSDA Ratnaprabha in her inaugural address noted the gap between the youth and skill training programmes by the state and central governments.
She requested the sector skill councils to suggest ways to fill the gaps and create employment opportunities for the youth.
The challenge of unemployed youth, between 14 and 18 years of age who have dropped out of schools and colleges, need to be addressed, she felt.
Ratnaprabha mentioned that industry associations have come forward to train youth required for the industries and look into the gaps that exist.
She also spoke about training and upskilling multitasking handymen who will be capable of doing multiple works in the industry.
Ratnaprabha stressed the need for the government to rise up to the expectations of stakeholders and people. The government aims to update the skill development training to bridge the gaps in order to make sure the youths are provided with employment opportunities and meet the need of skilled youth at the industry-level, she said.
The interactive session intends to bring together all the Sector Skill Councils established by NSDC, Government of India to establish a working mechanism for implementation of Skill development in the State of Karnataka, she said.
In his keynote address consultant, KSDA-SDEL S JAmalan gave a brief outline including the objectives of KSDA on the occasion.
He said the seminar will also highlight the best practices established by SSCs for implementation in furthering the cause of skill development in the country and in particular in Karnataka.
At the presentations by various SSCs such as aerospace and aviation sector, mining sector, telecom sector, apparel, made-ups and home furnishing sector, among others, achievements and plans in particular for the state were presented. 17 out of 39 SSCs participated and shared their process.
Several industry associations from all across the state interacted with the SSCs and decide on the way forward in Karnataka. The seminar intends to enable KSDA to assess and make policy recommendations to improve Skill Development in the State of Karnataka.
Ashwin Gowda IRS, MD, KSDC, spoke about the implementation of CMKKY, PMKVY in Karnataka.
Captain Kaustav Nath, state engagement officer for Karnataka, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), presented the highlights of PMKVY 3.0, Phase 1.
Dr Harish Kumar K, IAS, commissioner, CITE, elaborated on the implementation of apprenticeship training in Karnataka.
Dr S Selvakumar, secretary to government, skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood department, who was the chief guest on the occasion, spoke about the features and requirements of PMKVY 3.0.
The co-sponsor of the event, Shalini Amalan of Translife Foundation, was also present.
