Mangalore: `Asal Kalakar' Host Muhurat of Nellu Permannur’s New Konkani Play ‘Bostu’

Mangalore, Jul 18: “Konkani people are equally responsible for the upliftment of Tulu theatre. Their love and encouragement has brought Tulu theatre to its current level”, said Dinesh Attavar, renowned Tulu stage artiste on Saturday July 17.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘muhurat’ of playwright Nellu Permannur’s new Konkani play ‘Bostu’ at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar.
“Nellu Permannur is a talented artiste. He started his career as an actor in Tulu plays. Switching over to Konkani theatre, he has enriched it with his numerous plays as well as his acting and direction. He must continue this activity and very soon he will rise to the stature of other famous Konkani personalities”, added Attavar. He also recalled some of the Konkani dialogues of a Tulu play he had acted in some nine years ago.
Melvyn Rodrigues, director, operations, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, Eric Ozario, gurkar, Mandd Sobhann, John M Permannur, playwright and musician, Nirmal Kumar Udupi, musician, and Wilson D’Souza Kulshekar, were the guests of honour. They wished all success to Nellu in his new venture.
The muhurat was conducted with the guests on the dais lighting a lamp and a copy of the play ‘Bostu’ being handed over by the chief guest to Shaun Rodrigues, one of the junior members of ‘Asal Kalakar’, the Konkani theatre group which has taken the responsibility of staging this play.
Asal Kalakar, who have so far enacted several Konkani plays in and around Mangalore, celebrated their fourth anniversary on the occasion.
Stephen Mathias welcomed the gathering while Titus Noronha compered the programme. Wilson D’Souza Kulshekar proposed the vote of thanks.
To mark its fourth anniversary, Asal Kalakar staged ‘Kombyak Shingam Ailyar’ - a Konkani play written and directed by Nellu Permannur.
Alwyn Veigas, Felix Lasrado, Stephen Mathias, Nellu Permannur, Abraham Pashan, Shashiraj D’Souza, Ronald Cornelio, Vivek Madur, and Jagatpal Salian acted in the play.
