Udupi CMC presents budget, residential complex for civic workers to be built

Udupi, Mar 20: City Municipal Council (CMC) president Sumithra Nayak presented a surplus budget of Rs 4.67 crore for Udupi CMC for the year 2021-22, at the Satyamurthy memorial of CMC hall on Saturday March 20.

According to the budget, the council is expecting Rs 63.33 crore of income for the year 2021-22 from the central and state government and other commission.

Rs 5.24 lac grant from 15th Finance Commission, Rs 2.08 crore from the State Finance Commission, Rs 5.41 crore grant for wage of staffs and Rs 6.74 crore for payments from the same commission, Rs 5 crore as the SFC special grant, Rs 4.13 crore under Swachh Bharat Mission and Rs 20 lac for housing scheme is expected.

A residential complex for civic workers will be built at Beedinagudde at a cost Rs 2 crore and another apartment will be built at Manipal for the council staffs at a cost Rs 2 crore.

Under Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) scheme, a high-tech bus stand will be constructed at the present city bus stand in Udupi with multi floor commercial complex.

The president has stressed on making the city plastic-free. A proposal of Rs 130 crore project has been sent to the government. It proposes the development of Malpe, Udupi and Manipal cities in DDMF (Design Build Maintain and Finance) model which includes UUDIP (Udupi Urban Digital Infrastructure Project).

A commercial complex will come up at Santhekatte at the vacant place of weekly market at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

Ramesh Kanchan, a member of opposition, said, “There is no clarity about how to solve the problem of Indrani river and is there any specific fund allotted for that?”

Amrithkrishnamurthy acharya, a councillor said, “There are no special schemes announced for encouraging self-employment mainly for women.”

Most of the councillors appreciated the budget presentation and appreciated the decision of making residential complex for civic workers as it is a dream of civic workers too.

Special emphasis was given for improvement of roads, basic infrastructure, drinking water facility, solid waste management, street lights and sewage and UGD.

The president said, “A gas crematorium is being constructed at a cost of Rs 24.60 lac and an integrated traffic display will be installed at 12 circles with private participation.”

Rs 3.18 crore has been reserved for management of UGD and STP, and Rs 3.97 crore has been kept for the purifying of contaminated water.
