Amid rising corona cases, Karnataka govt bans public celebration of festivals

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 25: The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) confirmed that Karnataka is facing the threat of a second wave of coronavirus and therefore is undertaking necessary measures to contain the spread of the infection in the state. From time to time, the SDMA issued various orders/instructions to concerned authorities so that they are equipped to deal with the threat appropriately.

Although Covid-19 has been under constant review in Karnataka, a persistent rise in the cases has been observed in the last fortnight. SDMA has anticipated that upcoming festivals like Ugadi, Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Good Friday etc are likely to pose a considerable threat to the spread of the virus and cause a setback in the suppression of the chain of transmission of Covid-19 cases in Karnataka. Following this, an official government order announced that public celebrations and all gatherings/congregations during upcoming festivals will not be allowed in public places.

"In exercise of powers conferred under Section 22 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, SDMA, directs BBMP commissioner, deputy commissioners and all authorities concerned to ensure that public gatherings and congregations during the upcoming religious festivals like Ugadi, Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Good Friday etc. shall not be allowed in public places/public grounds/public parks/markets/religious places etc. in the state of Karnataka," the order stated.

The official release further stated that concerned authorities such as BBMP commissioner, deputy commissioners and other authorities are required to ensure strict compliance with the order and adequately inform and sensitize the field functionaries about these instructions for strict compliance.

In case any person is found violating the order, they will be booked as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of Disaster Management Act,2005, Section 188 of IPC and Section 4,5, and 10 of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act 2020, the order stated.

Along with festivals there should ban weddings malls and public entertainment places too.so many religious functions have already taken place.how permission was granted inspite of knowing the increase in covid. Strict action should be taken against wedding with more than restricted crowd where no social distance or mask is followed. Our government system brings in laws and regulations according to their convenience.specially communalism. If action was taken initially cases would not have increased.our system only cares how to extract money more than public safety..

Yes it was expected anyways. Car Festival at Car street witnessed thousands n thousands of people 😭 Sasihithlu Beach Festival happened last weekend, where again thousands of people gathered, ate drank n made merry. Political Rallies happen, thousands of people gather, no masks n no distance. Then where were you dear officials? Come to a church gathering n see the desciplinary systems we follow, masks n distance well maintained. So why don't you permit us to celebrate our feasts? Even last year Good Friday we were confined to our home. Come on Authorities, it's a well planned game to curb minority communities freedom of speech and expression. Freedom of religion and practicing our religious activities. Anyways God will surely show that Our God is there. He will take care of each of you who have done this meticulous planning 🙄😭

Dear friends just go through the news paper till date. You'll find many photos of celebration, gathering without any social destance,no mask, no safety measures. Why decrease in cases week before? This week increases? Yes we should follow safety measures and follow the rules.

Not surprising at all, These ban are imposed only when the minorities are celebrating their festivals. And this has happened earlier as well.

Till the end of May, a lot of temples have their annual fairs, jaatres etc. Many of them have already planned for it and started their preparations as well. And this is the case not just in the coastal region, but throughout the state. Of course, the current Govt. (and so have others) has used religion as a political tool which we all know. But the decision in the article doesn't seem to have such a motivation. It is a much needed one considering the severity of the pandemic.

The government and administration are so dumb that they don't even know the significance of Good Friday. Generally, it is a subdued prayer and worship ritual without any crowding. When fools and idiots are running the government, we ha e to bear with such stupid directives.

Oh super.. fantastic. Atleast you didn't close down bars pubs cinemas and and ofcourse didnt ask schools and colleges to resuce fees. They will never contribute to increase on corona and ofcourse with all the online classes colleges will contribute to your coffers. The unfortunate fateline of the salaried will remain unchanged. We will still continue to be scape goats. How convenient.

I appreciate this initiative. All festivals arrive within the gap of few days, there wont be ill feelings and complaints among our brothern. Otherwise, many a times we have heard people saying govt issue night curfew, day curfews imposes only during some festivals...Please close down the educational institutions because children have to stay with their masks on continuously and which they will never follow...

Farmers Agitation going on for more than 120+ days with more than 5 lakhs gathered in 0 degree temperature without any so called protective mandates like distance & masks has conclusively proven this Pandemic is nothing but a hoax created by vested foreign interests to damage Indian Progress towards Developed Nation. Our education has been derailed, businesses have been hit both by govts blunders & lockdowns. Say good bye to 5 trillion economy jumla too. From which year Good Friday became a festival to Christians? Again stop PCR Pandemic, stop testing healthy people & following Chinese Model of fake drama of arresting people taking them to secluded hospitals & lock downs. All these measures have failed since a year again implementing them is nothing but "harakiri"
