Mangaluru, Mar 30: Agnesian and Marathi film-producer Aroona B Bhat, earlier this month was feted as a MEGA achiever under the category of Woman Entrepreneur Icon for creating awareness about menstrual pain.
A student of the 1997 batch at St Agnes College, Aroona added that by standing with her in her endeavour, the MEGA foundation - has given her faith & infused extra zing, that extra impetus to spread the message of period pain not being normal. “I do hope I am able to reach more & more young girls & ladies of the future generation & pain during periods will be looked at as something from the past,” she said.
In her statement, Principal of St Agnes College (Autonomous) Sr Dr Venissa said "it is a proud moment for all of us at St Agnes to see the Agnesians contributing to society and doing well. The Centennial year has produced many stars and Aroona Bhat is one among them."
A TEDx speaker, image consultant and film producer, Aroona is presently residing in Mumbai. Aroona in her earlier media interaction had claimed that from kindergarten through her graduation, she has been an Agnesian all the way. Aroona was also the speaker for the Foundation Day in 2020, when St. Agnes College (Autonomous) was celebrating 100 years.
Through her Facebook Group Lets TAPP (Let's Talk about Period Pain), which she started in March 2019, Bhat initiated awareness about period pain. “Bringing about a change in people’s mindset is never easy. Especially when the subject matter involved – ‘period pain’ has been engraved in our minds to be normal. As a result, we have all grown up neglecting it, leading to unwanted complications, tremendous suffering & unnecessary pain. Unfortunately, this is something which even I have been subjected to,” she said.
Eminent scientist, founder and chairman of the Academy of Universal Global Peace Dr Madhu Krishan gave away the award and said that the award was for empowering women through my support group. “Let's TAPP (Let's Talk About Period Pain) as women struggle with period pain. The group is involved in informing women that period pain is not normal and suggesting, guiding, and helping them with alternates," Dr Krishan said.
