Karwar, Aug 9: Five fishermen met watery grave on Sunday August 8 evening, after their mechanical fishing boats capsized while coming to the shore at Tadadi in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district.

Two boats, named Jnaneshwari and Netravati, got stuck in the accumulated silt at the estuary of Tadadi port and capsized. Ten fishermen fell into the tumultuous sea, but five of them were saved with the help of the locals. The deceased have been identified as Suresh, Muhammed Ali, Hasan Wadekar, Jaleel Wadekar and Ummer Wadekar.

The fishermen expressed their resentment at the apathy of the Coastal Security Force, which failed to press into service its rescue boats for saving the fishermen in this incident. Till late night, none of the five fishermen could be found.

District superintendent of police, Raman Gupta, visited the spot and guided the operations.
