Mangalore, Aug 10: Popular Front of India had organized its ‘Save India’ campaign in the city on Monday August 9. Hundreds of its activists and others gathered in front of the office of Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner here to pledge solidarity with the outfit’s ideals and aims. The outfit wants to rid India from the clutches of terrorism and dictatorial rule. Most part of the event was reserved for bashing the so-called Hindu extremism. Those who addressed the meeting mainly targetted the fundamentalist forces within the Hindu community for the unrest witnessed in the society.
Pattabhirama Somayaji, University College lecturer in the city, in his address, said that a strong undercurrent of Hindu extremism and terrorism has been unleashed in the country, and feared that this will tear the integrity of the country into pieces. He said that Islam as a religion has always stood for unity, peace and peaceful coexistence, adding that the Muslims living in the country want their motherland, India, to be a strong, united nation. Somayaji decried the stance of the Hindu extremist groups, which he alleged, want to split the country on the lines of majority and minorities.
He flayed the state and the central governments for not tackling the issue of Hindu terrorism effectively, and dithering in the matter of taking strong steps to contain them. He sighted Malegaon blasts as a case of Hindu terrorist activity.
Other leaders of the Front, who spoke on the occasion, said that Hindu terrorists have well-oiled networks in India that have been unleashing terror strikes on innocent people. They held these groups responsible for incidents like setting off blasts in Goa, Nanded, Kanpur, Thane, Mecca Masjid, Hubli, Samjhauta Express etc. The speakers urged the government to swoop on Hindu extremists on a large scale to ensure that peace prevails in the country, and criticized the government for unnecessarily arresting and harassing innocent Muslims.
