Mysore, Aug 11: A day before the much-trumpeted 'Jagruti Samavesha' of ruling BJP in the state on Saturday August 14, which will be attended by chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and the Bellary Reddy Brothers among other BJP leaders, AICC general secretary and Congress party’s heir apparent Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the city, the cultural capital of the state.
However, Rahul Gandhi’s visit, coming close on the heels of the successful Bangalore to Bellary padayatra and a mammoth rally in Bellary city on August 9 which virtually shattered the peace and confidence of the Bellary Mining Lords as well as the ruling BJP regime in the state, will not have too much of political overtones.
The Congress general secretary will be arriving in Bangalore on the morning on Friday August 13 and will fly to Mysore to attend a programme at St Philomena's College.
According to Fr Leslie Moras, principal of St Philomena’s College here, Rahul Gandhi will have a 90-minute-long interaction with the students from 10.15 am.
About 400 students will participate in the interaction, Fr Moras said explaining that the programme was planned as part of the Independence Day celebrations. The young leader will focus on the topic 'Future of India and Youth.' Rahul Gandhi and the students will exchange views on their vision for tomorrow's India, Fr Moras said.
Rahul Gandhi, who has been mobilising the youth to join politics in several states, will also hold discussions with the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the Student Congress, regarding the strategies to galvanise the organisation in four districts of the state during his two-day visit, NSUI said.
After the programme in Mysore, Rahul Gandhi will fly to Shimoga and Hubli-Dharwad the same day to hold an interaction session with students. He will stay overnight at Hubli. The security personnel have already arrived in Mysore to inspect the venue in view of his visit.
Aam Aadmi Ka Sepoy (AAKS) zonal in-charge, Dasharath Rai said that Rahul Gandhi will visit Gulbarga on August 14. He will return to Bangalore the same day and fly back to Delhi.
According to sources, Rahul Gandhi may even stay at a Dalit's house during his visit to Hubli as he had done in his home constituency Amethi.
This is the second visit of Rahul Gandhi to Mysore region in the last two years. It was on the eve of Assembly elections that he had roadshows in B R Hills, Chamarajanagar, Nanjangud and H D Kote.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders sought to clarify that Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Karnataka had nothing to do with the success of their padayatra.
