Mangaluru, May 19: Former minister, B Ramanath Rai, accused the BJP which runs the government, of ignoring the problems of the people arising out of coronavirus infection. He said that the party is worried more about the erosion of Modi's image than the plight of the people in general.
Speaking at a joint press conference organized by Congress leaders here on Tuesday May 18, Rai claimed that the infected people are not getting proper medical facilities and enough vaccines are not being provided to the notified age groups. Because of lockdown, the livelihoods of poor, labour class and the middle class have been hit hard, he mentioned. .He lashed out at the government for not being able to arrest increasing prices of the petroleum products.
Dakshina Kannada district Congress president, Harish Kumar, urged the government to announce suitable packages to various classes of people who have been suffering on account of lockdown. He demanded that the government should arrange to hand over essential goods to the people living in hilly terrain.
Former minister U T Khader, criticized the government for failing to undertake a campaign to inculcate a sense of self confidence and courage among the people about the vaccines. He said that the people who were dithering from getting themselves vaccinated, are now opting for the same out of fear. He felt that initially vaccines should have been administered to the legislators and top ranking medical professionals at the beginning instead of vaccinating the group 4 employees, in order to instil confidence among the people. He also blamed the government for not being able to provide sufficient amounts of vaccines when the people are willing to get vaccinated.
Former minister Abhayachandra Jain, former Rajya Sabha member B Ibrahim, former MLAs J R Lobo and Mohiuddin Bava, former district youth Congress president Mithun Rai, and others were present.
