Mangalore, Aug 17: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, said that for the first time in the state, a maritime board, which will be beyond the intervention of politicians, is being set up for achieving integrated development and conservation of ports including undertaking of dredging activities.

He gave this information to the media men during his visit to the Town Hall here to take part in a programme.

“The state cabinet has given its nod for this ambitious project. It will be forwarded to the central government within a couple of days, for approval. The government has already set aside R 100 crore for the purpose,” he explained. He disclosed that one of the additional secretaries in the state government will chair the maritime board, while four principal secretaries from different departments will be chosen as the proposed board’s members.
