Mysuru: Man pedals bicycle for 280 km to fetch medicines for son

Daijiworld Media Network - Mysuru (SP)

Mysuru, Jun 1: A man bicycled for 280 kms to bring medicines for his sick son. For him, the distance did not pose a challenge as he was determined to help his son.

Anand (45), resident of Ganiganakoppalu village in T Narasipur taluk in the district went to National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru by bicycle to bring medicine for his son.

Anand is a mason by profession. His son, Chetan, has psychological disorders. He was being treated in NIMHANS. Anand had to visit NIMHANS every month to collect medicines. The medicine got exhausted, and because of lockdown, it was not possible for him to travel to Bengaluru by public transport. The family was reportedly told by the doctor that if the medicine is missed once, it will have to be continued for an additional period of 18 years. Therefore, Anand went to Bengaluru on his bicycle. He said he had requested many people to bring medicines for his son, but no one helped him. He therefore went to Bengaluru on May 23 via Bannur, Malavalli and Kanakapura by bicycle.

Anand who was devastated by hunger during the journey took rest at a temple in Kanakapura for some time. He reached Banashankari at 10 pm where the locals helped him by providing a place to stay and food.

He went to NIMHANS the next morning. The doctor who came to know that he had covered so much distance by bicycle offered him Rs 1,000, Anand said.

RSRB Kundapura/Singapur,Dear brother ,I think you still dont want to accept the fact what is happening in Indias outskirts or with a man working as a Mason somewhere ,has no money to buy medicines ,let alone when many people were not ready to bring the medicine for him.First of all such medicines cant be given to a some other persons.Poor fellow had to go self with bicycle for hours travel.what one father doesnt do for his sick Son?Still you try to defend your version?Comedown from your high Horse.place yourself in his position and see how it is.Have and show humanity.India is still not yet developed in outskirts. No modern facilities reached there. Not even proper roads .Hope his son will recover soon .

Madam Rita, I don't find any solution in your comment for ongoing problem. My or your tears / compassion does not bring him medicine. By the way, I have already conveyed my collegemate, who hails from T Narasipura for necessary action. He has told that within 5 km from the village, there is Courier service in Somanathpura. (This place is familiar to me as well as I studied in Mandya Engg college, it is matter of 20-25 km from my college) My friend is still tracing the mason for his future needs of medicine. Thanks to Daijiworld news, which I could utilize to help someone with credible solution.

Mr. Kundapore, Do you just comment or read as well?? As I said I see your comments (those does not make any sense) in this forum very often. This is again another example. You asked like ""Do you think, this guy never spoke to anyone in his village?"" Why he is not approaching them?"" . Now if you go back and read the news, you will also find this lines ""He said he had requested many people to bring medicines for his son, but no one helped him. " I get this news from DW, don't know whether you knew him personally to say that HE DID NOT approached anybody.

Anna, Mangalore In fact Sir, you also don't read my comments in full... :-) I also told, if this guy has lost sympathy in his own village, there must be seriously wrong in him. Do you think, if this person is genuine, will anyone not help him? He must be having some relatives outside the village, also don't want to help him. Means he lost sympathy there too... Now, just judge the person, who does not deserve any sympathy from villagers and relatives....

RSRB, why don't you help him with courier service instead of commenting? He is a mason, probably cannot afford courier and might not know about how to procure the medications for his son. Out of his concern and helplessness he probably decided to go on a cycle. It is very easy to call this Mason foolish, but he might not be as foolish as you are to do this for appreciation. Why dont you send him a month's supply of medicines through courier and see how feasible it might be especially for people living in the outskirts? When he is desperately trying to save his son, even you would not wait for courier and might run like a headless chicken. So please be empathetic during these hard times. Thank you!

RSRB, Kundapura / Singapore, as Daisy, Mangalore /US said, he is by profession meson. Also note that, some of the Controlled medicine (psychological disorders) original prescription required and some are only available at hospital pharmacy. Such medicine shipment special courier services available which are three to four time more than normal one. This is to widen your knowledge horizon. Sitting at Singapore don't comment foolishly.

Kundapore, You better do not read anything until you get a kind heart.. Shows the kind of culture you bought up with. You comment on politicians (only from a particular party) but you did not see this guy's problems. Who is running the government or ordered lock down without even thinking people like this guy. There are thousands of people who are suffering from this failed lock down. Lock down is necessary to tackle Covid, but what about other health conditions that needs to be addressed? The comment in other section about Dubai Government (?is opposition included in the government) is a mirror for your foolishness when you're sitting in Singapore where virtually there is no opposition. Do you know the political system in Singapore first of all??.

Fernandes, Mangalore There are only 3 possibilities 1. He does not share his problem / requirement in his village 2. Even if he shares, in that village there are no kind hearted people 3. The villagers felt this guy is not worth for the help... If you think, any other possibilities, please advice...

Same way, there are kindhearted people in his village, who can help him and even bear the ost of medicine. Why he is not approaching them? Passing negative comment on me will help him to get medicine? If so, please post thousands of negative comment on me. I am happy, if the guy can get the medicine by easiest way.

I am at my village. My medicines are also coming through courier. Not really expensive Sir. If you want to take your frustration on me by negative comments, it is OK. @RSRB, because I have read your comments in other other pages as well. It is not difficult to identify an andh bhakth.clearly your comments failed to acknowledge thr struggles of common man.. Btw about the courier..all are not privileged like you to use courier services and get other alternatives for help. For that you should go see the life in rural India, not your kundalpur..the real rural places. Oh also ,I would like to repeat, the first comment you made about that desperate father was really insensitive and also really sick.

Even my medicines are coming to a nearby place which is 4 km away from my home. Courier promptly calls me after delivery. It costs really less and definitely not worth cycling 280 km. If you feel, I am not good in advices, please let me know your advise for his next medicine requirement Sir? Kindly be practical in your advice.....

I just thought why he did not purchase the medicine in medical stores nearby. Then I remember that some of the drugs prescribed for psychological disorders are narcotic drugs, which are not available in any medical stores.. Hence, he had no alternative than going to the hospital. Really a good father.

Its very tragic to say that this man had travelled far to fetch the medicine for his son. Developed areas like Mysuru he should have take a help from the public, social service peoples by not looking at their creed/ cast & also Now Modiji has developed his medical store in the prime areas to get a medicines at lowest / budgeted cost. Concern district collector has to review the history of him & do the neeful.

I feel pity for this gentleman. He never gave up on his son. In today's world no one wants to help each other until they have a benefit, especially in India, one can find the most selfish people. People maybe inhumane and selfish but what goes around comes around. God bless you Sir for your efforts and for travelling so far in a cycle for your son. God is watching you, you will be awarded. Dear Daisy, don't know which part of the world are you living and what made you to think so. There are numerous cases of humanitarian services by individuals, local organizations and communities is being reported everyday during this pandemic. Even in this case, didn't you notice that Doctor gave him 1000 Rupees ? Had he called and informed the same doctor over phone definitely he would have found an alternative. My sympathies with Anand, but it is really foolish act by putting himself on danger.

Surprising no one told him of Mysuru Medical College and Mental Health department! That medicine could've been procured from there only. Sometimes ignorance of man does make him go that extra mile and this guy just did that, astonishing . Because he had the physical strength to cycle so far, he could adjust.

I think he not educated like you. It is not ignorance, it is lack of knowledge. Are you sure Mysuru Medical College and Mental Health department helped him? All our Govt depts. are there to say "NO" at first instance. By logic, no one will burn his heals to ride 280km without grave reason. Necessity and love for his special child made him so. Apricate him. Also I can see so many disagree to the comments. They are born to do so. God bless them.
