Udupi, Aug 25: “When I took over charge as the inspector general of police of western range, incidents like church attacks had weakened the community fabric in the region. In Uttara Kannada district too, lack of harmony between religious groups had been bothering the administration. With the initiation of some bold steps, the situation has improved, and naxal activities are at their nadir at present,” said western range inspector general of police, Gopal Hosur.

He was speaking after taking part in a send-off function organized by the police departments of Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts here on Tuesday August 24, at the office of the superintendent of police here. "With the arrest of some people having links with the underworld, we unearthed the links some elements here had with terrorists. The situation has improved a lot, thanks to the support extended by my people, he said and advised his colleagues to take right steps at the right time, so as not to allow the problems to aggravate. He also wanted young police officers to get trained to take the lead, as technology will be critical for the efficacy of the department in future.

“I had planned to visit every village by organizing a cycle rally. I also wanted to take steps to improve the condition of the police residential quarters and to increase the number of residential quarters available for them. As I have been transferred in between, these plans could not be executed,” he explained.

District superintendent of police (SP), Pravin Madhukar Pawar, additional SP, Venkateshappa, Uttara Kannada SP, Raman Gupta, additional SP, V V Gaonkar, DySPs, Ullas Varnekar, Jayant Shetty, Vishwanath Pandit, Teertharaju etc., spoke on the occasion, wishing a bright future for Hosur.
