Mangalore, Aug 29: 'Poetry is not lonely. Good poetry always speaks with its readers,' said Kannada writer and poet Chidambara Baikampady here at the Yugapurusha hall, Kinnigoli on Sunday August 29.
He was speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of 'Poetry Day' organized by Kavita Trust.
'Poets must use words in such a way that they sound like music to the ears. Music in poetry helps one to enjoy it even if it is difficult to understand,' he observed.
Hemacharya, editor, Daijiworld Weekly, lit the lamp and inaugurated the event along with other dignitaries on the dais. 'When I walk through the old streets of Kinnigoly, surrounded by scenic beauty, poetry takes birth on its own. Kinnigoly was once a major hub of Konkani poetry. This particular event will give rise to a new era and bring back its lost glory in the Konkani literary field,' he said.
Richard Moras, convenor of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain called upon the youngsters to make optimum use of this opportunity provided by Kavita Trust and learn to embrace the happiness imparted by poetry. Dayan D'Souza, founder member and ex-convenor of Daiji Dubai said that poetry improves human relationships.
Bhuvanabhiram Udupa, editor, Yugapurusha, expressed hope that the poets who recite poems on the occasion would definitely become poets of national stature some day. K G Mallya, ex-deputy general manager, Syndicate Bank, said that Kavita Trust is taking a giant stride forward by organizing the poetry session.
Melvyn Rodrigues, president, Kavita Trust in his introducatory speech said, 'Poets must always have doubts about what they create. Doubting one's composition helps one to jump a step further in terms of quality. One who neither doubts nor accepts criticism by others, cannot become a good poet,' he opined.
Presiding over the youth poetry session young poet Wilson Kinnigoli said that a poem cannot be 'poetic' unless its creator feels so. There are no set rules and regulations as to compose a poem, he explained.
Some of the young poets who participated in the poetry session were Venkatesh Nayak, Mangalore, Praveen Tauro, Mangalore, Nelson Sequeira, Kateel, Shareena Shweta D'Souza, Paul Crasta, Dimpna Nazareth, Lavita Menezes, Jeevan Alvares, Renita Menezes and Merwin Crasta, all from Kinnigoly.
Jossy Pinto Kinnigoli also presided over a poetry session wherein some of the well-known Konkani poets like Hemacharya, Melvyn Rodrigues, Gladys Rego, Dimple Fernandes, Wilson Kateel, HM Pernal, Valerian Sequeira, Carmine Saldanha, K G Mallya and Walter Dantis recited their finest poems.
