Kasargod, Aug 30: In a strange incident, a woman, who posed herself as a man, bagged employment with a company, and defrauded it to the tune of five lac rupees. The accused has been identified as Rani (25), daughter of Mahadevan, residing in West Kaikulangara, Chatannur, in Kollam.

Rani, claiming herself to be Srikant, joined Abs Tiles, a company operating in Kottayam Taluttilayil. Around six months ago, she joined the company by providing fake identity card and degree certificate. She looked and behaved like men, joining the men in cigarette smoking, attended late night booze parties and worked till around 9 pm, even as others went home by 6 pm.

She was entrusted with the task of collecting money from the company’s clients. ‘Srikant’ moved on his motorbike and collected money, and by preparing duplicate records, swindled company money regularly. After the owner of the factory checked accounts recently, he found out that the concern had been defrauded to the tune of about five lac rupees. When he went to the home of ‘Srikant’ to talk to him, to his shock, he found that the man he was looking for was a lady named Rani, and not Srikant as believed by him.  He got the lady medically examined and got confirmation that she was in fact, a woman.

Rani, second daughter of Mahadevan, always liked to dress up like boys, sport boyish hairstyle, and behave like boys. The parents, all the three children of whom are girls, did not object to their daughter’s passion. The company owner has now filed a police complaint, and reportedly, the family has been caught unawares of the fact that Rani was working in the guise of a male.
