Mangaluru: Police arrest man for insulting Tulu Nadu flag

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Jun 18: Sleuths of Barke and Urwa police station in a joint operation have arrested a man accused of insulting the Tulu Nadu flag through a Facebook post recently.

The arrested accused is identified as Surya NK, who had edited the Tulu Nadu flag and added indecent comments to the Facebook post on June 6.

It is said that based on a police complaint by the city corporator Shashidhar Hegde, the accused was arrested. Hegde had filed a complaint in this regard with the police commissioner’s office on June 9. A case under IPC section 153 (a), 505 (2) was registered against the Surya.

Barke police station sub-inspector Harun Akthar, Urwa police station staff, Pushparaj, Prakash and Barke police station staff Sharath were sent to Bengaluru on special duty on June 17 to nab the accused. They took Surya into custody from his residence at Rampur, Bengaluru and escorted him to Mangaluru on June 18. He has been produced in court that has remanded him to judicial custody.

KBR Mangaluru, Konkani aayina Konku buddhi yappala budhpuje aata. You are a fattu Konkani who migrated from Goa fearing Invaders. Where were your Kshatriyas or protectors. Majority Tuluva communities are warriors like Billavas, Bunts & Mogaveeras. We know how to protect ourselves and protect others. Rani abbakka drove away the Portuguese. What did Goans do? What is Goa more than a whorehouse den now. GSB konkanis practice apartheid when they don't allow Tuluva communities into their temples. They still haven't integrated into Tulu society even as a sub-community not that we want you to. GSB konkanis are the most hypocrite community in the coast. They call themselves Brahmins and eat fish and subjugate natives calling them lower castes. The Mangalorean Konkani Catholics are better. They love Tulu. Imagine being called Ghati by your Catholic cousins in Goa or by anyone referring to you as Marathi Ghati. Shiv Sena didn't spare you during anti - South tirade in Bombay yet you shamelessly associate with them. Mogaveeras first urbanised themselves migrating to Bombay. Tulu Brahmins made their mark with Veg. cuisine. Yet you claim you were the first in doing so. NITK formerly KREC was and is still the best college in the region before you claim Manipal institutions did it first.

Politicians Not Keen to List TULU in Eighth Schedule Of Constitution, they Fear Recognising this Language Lead to Partition of Karnataka. And For Any Government to hold Power in Karnataka state , MLA seats of Udupi Mangalore are Very Crucial. Also this is Powerhouse of BJP , Nowhere else in State they get Complete Loyalty like they get here. In this Political game Our (tuluvas) interests are being Compromised. Our Language, culture and tradition are Put at Stake. We know we have Elected Incompetent MP's Like Nalin who is Now busy in state politics as BJP state President. Only God can save the Fate of Endangering TULU Language and our state tuluNadu And States are formed on What Majority People speak for Transaction Example_ Karnataka Kannada, West Bengal Bangla, Gujarat Gujarati, Tamil Nadu Tamil.

People in Mangalore speak Tulu day in and day out and probably do not understand the value. Just come to Bangalore and after a long time if you encounter someone speaking Tulu or if you get to speak Tulu to someone, the experience the connection and how well we relate is altogether at a different level. In this context, wondering what would one get by insulting Tulu Nadu Flag? Most importantly, DK culture and culture imbibed in Tulu cannot be removed from one another.

Tulu Speaking lands, along with Kodava lands were not under the Mysore kingdom of Wodeyar which later on became Karnataka state. Mangalore, Udupi were under the Madras province during. Kannada is not the native language of Karavali. Tulu people are proud of their heritage, their language, their land and their flag. Jai Tulunadu! Jai Bharat!

the so-called flag of so-called ತುಳು ನಾಡು is badly designed... it has been the object of ridicule in social media for a long time now... with crescent and red background , it might be confused to be communist flag (crescent mistaken for sickle) or even flag of an Islamic state..they say Sun and moon were sacred to Tuluvas and were worshiped. it is true, but not just tuluvas, whole of mankind worshiped sun and moon in ancient times... the primitive man was awed and wondered from where this ball of fire arrives in the morning and where it disappears at night... same with moon... ಆದಿ ಮಾನವ wondered where it comes from and where it goes... and again why it becomes weaker every day and one fine day not be spotted... only to recover and appear again... man is fascinated and dumbstruck, so he worshiped... it is better to have new flag indicating what is specific to coastal KN, half blue (to indicate rivers and sea) and half green (to indicate western ghats) with a sketch of a fish or a coconut tree in the centre...

here some commentators are referring DK and Udupi as Tulunaadu.. I am born and brought up in mlore and never knew that there is a tulunadu flag.. The concept of Tulunadu is only for Tulu speaking people. According to my observation, Tulu people address Muslims and Christians in the twin districts cheaply as porbu and byari and now after BJp came to power they are troubling both communities. So we are not in favour of naming as Tulunadu because we know the so called Tuluver, most of them not all, are not like before..They do not care for the Christians and Muslims living in the twin districts. Jai Dakshina Kannada and Jai Udupi..Jai Karnataka..

KBR Mangaluru, PORBHU OR BYARY is not a desrespective words. Any kannadiga would feel proud if he is soluted with word Gowda/gowde, which stand for respectable person in a village. Only some people who are not the original inhabitants of this region, will not understand the sensitivity involved. Because they have this habit of a redeculing others. For instances those who are from Goa would call any body other than native as *Ghati* (even if he has come from South and not other side of the Ghat).

What does that represent? Turlunad is actually green with full of Coconut trees but Red or Maroon whatever you call it, Why? If someone could enlighten, will help. The red background heavily represents Chinese flag, the hue may be slightly different.

Tulu speakers should stop referring to coastal region as Tulu Nadu, it is like ignoring the majority people who are non-tulu speakers...the culture, customs of konkani speaking hindus (mainly GSB/SB/DB) distinct from tulu customs... of course konkani speaking catholics and beary language speaking muslims are different from tulu customs and traditions... moreover there are many kannada speakers (e.g. havyaks, some Protestant christians), marathi / konkani speaking people of Goa origin (other than GSB/RSB/DB)... urdu speaking muslims...

I think what police did is correct. It is wrong to insult a flag. The Thulunadu flag may or may not be an approved flag by govt, that doesn't matter. But it (the flag) represents a large group of people who speak Thulu language and who follow the culture of Thuluva. Insulting such a flag is similar to insult the people/community which is represented by that flag. And such insult is considered as crime as per IPC 153 (A) and 505(2) under which the case has been registered.

Now a days tuluva people are vertically divided in terms of language, religion etc, therz no unity among our people. If we see in terms of government job, very few finger counted tuluva is getting that opportunity, most of the bulk share of government job is taken over by other people.

After 2014 sedition charges has come into being which was unheard of before. Govt misuses these British era laws for those who question them and disagree with them. It has nothing to do with patriotism but govt is manipulating it into a loyalty issue to silence the voice who questions the govt. Ruling the country against the constitution and unparliamentary practices after taking the constitutional oath is a grave violation of loyalty to the country and a severe sedition charge should be slapped against the govt.
