Kannada villages in Kasargod district got Malayalam names years ago

Kasargod, Jul 2: Unnoticed by many, a number of Kannada villages were rechristened in Malayalam style several years back. It is found that boards of the public works department displayed on National Highways have distorted Kannada names that resemble Malayalam.

The modified names can be seen in identified spots of revenue and tourism departments. Several places falling under revenue and tourism department have been given the Malayalam accent names by changing their original forms. Many places belonging to revenue and tourism departments too have undergone this change.

The boards spell Manjeshwar as Manjeshwaram and Kumble as Kumbla. Although Kerala government has claimed that it has never issued any instructions in this regard or made changes, roads leading to Kasargod bear testimony to the hollowness of this claim.

It is said that the name of Manjeshwara was changed into 'Manjeshwaram' as per an order issued by Kerala revenue department in 2013.

    Kannadiga people have big hearted people & minds are working negatives. Recently from municipal corporation has some issues as per says public demand to re naming lady hill to shri Narayana Guru circle. It sounds like purpose of changing name religious controverse. We do have plenty of philosophers in Mangalore. Its a big shame to senseless mangloreans given to bankrupt bank fraud man adani who is not at all from manglore & Manglore people are starving without any food , fecilities, services, financial help & support...? There are several educational institutions in Karnataka, Manglore has built uncountable TEMPLES in students heart....only we need a vision to recognize. When we have problems when keralities changing kannada names to theirs, why we didn't bring objections instead we brainless invite & encourriage other states to set a industry. Opportunity & priority must be given karnataka kannadiga people first for any jobs or set up industries. Shouldn't be misusing involving political controversy...(?) ...???

    First of all, there were no Kannada names. There were only Tulu names. Kannadigas changed Tulu names to Kannad names. Now Malyalis are changing the names to Malayalam. This is a clear example of Tuluvas' negligent behavior. we need to create Tulunad Rajya and undo all the injustice done by Kannadigas and Malyalis. Jai Tulunad

    ... there is a place near Mudipu and Kerala border which is originally known as 'Poopadikall', now it is officially called 'Hoohakuva Kallu'. Both Kannada and Mallus are corrupting Tulu name of places !!!

    Changing name and spelling it as per local slag is totally different. For that matter , Mangalore is called as Mangalapuram by every Malayalee.

    Change in names in the name plates are sometimes supported by local non malayalees to pretend as trendsetters. This includes Kannadigas, GSB, Konkani Catholics, Tuluvas, Bearys Marathis etc. Parishes affiliated to Mangalore Diocese are also named in Malayalam in some places. EX: Kumbla, Bovikanam. They should be Kumble, Bovikana All 'Katte's become 'Katta' EX: Nellikatte, Mavinakatte and many many more. Even Hamapanakatta????? Adka becomes Adukka Kunje becomes Kunnu Guli or kuli becomes Kuzhi Many places have an extra m in the end, pailam, mallam, anathapuram, manjeshwaram

    Once Mangaluru can have names Mangalore, Kodial, Kudla, Mangalapuram why not for Kasargod. It is not an insult. Even Lord Vishnu has thousand names and called as Sahasranama. Focus on real issues. Do not fall in distractive tactics.

    But we Kannadigas or Tuluvas are very large hearted people ( !!??). We put boards in Malayalam even in pan shops of Mangalore , Udupi etc. You can`t talk to the staff of Mangalore Central Railway Station in Kannada , Tulu or Hindi. Its time to payback.
