Sullia, Sep 13: Navin Yedamangala (27), a popular theatre personality and drama director, died on the spot, after the motor bike he was riding, was hit by a tipper truck at Nekkila on Panja-Kadaba road on Saturday September 11. Navin, who worked in close proximity with famous theatre personality, Jeevanram Sullia, is survived by parents and a brother.

Navin, who had shot to fame with his portrayal of Mahatma Gandhiji in Tulu village set up as part of Vishwa Tulu Sammelan in Ujire last year, was going to Kadaba to bring actors for a play to be performed on Saturday night at Panja. He had set up a stage complete with all other facilities at Panja on September 10 for the purpose. He was trained by Jeevanram Sullia during his student days in Subrahmanya college, after which, he was trained in theatre skills at Neenasam in Heggodu. Since the last 18 months, he was working as a teacher of the theatre training centre of SDM College, Ujire.

The killer tipper went away without caring to stop, and the policemen confiscated the vehicle from Madappady near Guttigar later in the day. The driver was arrested.  The drama, ‘Mid Summer Nights Dream’ directed by Navin, however, was presented on Saturday as planned, as a tribute to the late actor.

As I mourn his death I pray to Almighty to give eternal rest to the departed soul and strength to his family to bear the loss. May his good work continue to inspire many young talents.

Indeed sad to learn a talented actor, Navin had to loose his life for no fault of his at such a young age. People do not think twice before killing others on roads considering they will come out on bail paying petty amount.
