Gulf Voice of Mangalore: UAE Semifinalists Get Vocal Training

Dubai, Sep 14: A vocal training session was held for the UAE semi-finalists of the ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ competition recently in Dubai. The session started at 10:30 am with a prayer by Valerian Peris.
Mangalore Konkans president, senior members, and GVM committee members were present at the event.
Valerian Peris introduced and welcomed the trainers Jossie Moras and Stany D’Souza.
Stany D’Souza emphasized the importance of preparing for the contest. He compared a singing competition to a beauty pageant where just beauty is not the only criteria, but the whole package is important. “Voice needs practice which improves its quality and confidence levels. Singing should be a medium of communication and expression of emotions”, he said.
He advised the participants that it helps to record themselves and be self critics while obtaining opinions from seasoned singers / musicians helps in improving themselves.
Moras opened by asking each participant to compete an evaluation sheet. He instructed them on ways to prepare for the competition and stressed on pitch accuracy, right way of breathing, vocal health, negative effects of singing from the throat, song selection, maintenance of rhythm, dynamics in singing, flexibility and effortless singing, posture, communication, and professionalism.
Later the two coaches sat together with each participant individually and guided them on ways to improve themselves and prepare for the competition. The event wound up with a prayer and lunch.
