Mangalore: Sahana Shetty Bags Silver in International Karate Championship

Mangalore Sep 14: Sahana Shetty, all of nine years old won a silver medal bagging second place in Karate Kumite competition at the 4th Nepal Shotokon Karate Association (NASKA) International Karate Championship 2010 held in Kathmandu, Nepal, recently. She missed gold medal and a cash prize of Rs 2 lac by a mere one point.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday September 14 Nadeem said that Sahana is a student of std IV in Buruj English Medium School, Bantwal in the district. Students Mokshith M Shetty of std VIII and Habib Abdul Kadeer made it to the quarters, while Barnisha Jorge moved upto semifinals, he said.
He also said that students in the school are encouraged to participate in various sports and cultural activities resulting in many winning state and national awards.
Coach of the students Sarfaraz was also present.
The karate championship was jointly organized by the National Sports Council (Nepal Olympic Committee), Nepal Karate Federation and NASKA.
