Mangalore, Sep 14: Members of Mangalore air crash victims' families association staged a protest here on Tuesday September 14 against the inconsistencies in the payment of compensation to the victims' next of kin.

The protesters organised a march from Kenjar bus stop to the new integrated airport terminal where they expressed their ire at the airport authorities and Air India management, demanding transperancy as well as equality in the distribution of compensation. They also called for the withdrawal of user development fee which was recently enforced at the airport.

They accused Air India officials of insentivity towards victims' families and alleged that they were biased when it came to dispensing the compensation.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to Mangalore Airport director M R Vasudeva Rao, in which they termed the user development fee a burden to the passengers.

State Prantha Raitha Sangha district secretary Yadav Shetty, president of Mangalore air crash victims' famlies association Mohammed Beary and others were present.

Looks like protest from bunch of people who do not know the concept of human life value which is simply the present value of a person based on his earning capacity. Human life value will decrease as the age of a person increases and vary from person to person. This is true when it comes to deciding the compensation but this will change the fact that the value of person can not be measured by money.

I agree with Nelson on this issue. All mankind want to live in comfort and happiness. Bajpe new airport giving now international facilities and deserves some additional Airport tax. Although it is time consuming in airport to settle this amount, it is better taken while purchasing ticket. Airport tax was collected in Mumbai airport till recently

The user development fee should be ok if charged for a short time( one or 2 years maximum). All the passengers should remember one point here that if the development fee is not collected from passengers who use the Airport, then from where the money will come for maintaining the airport and giving better facilities to the passengers? Do you think is it right to charge this amount to Indian public through tax collection?? or use tax payers money to maintain the Airport? Simply protesting for anything won’t make sense.

Protest if the good facilities are not provided in spite of collecting the money. Ask the AAI what happened to the collected money if it is not being used for Airport development. It might make sense if you fight for reducing the fee and not asking totally to remove it.I suggest Airlines to charge this airport fee on the ticket itself rather than collecting the same @ the airport.
