Bengaluru, July 24: With his exit almost certain, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa took the virtual mode from his Home Office of Krishna in Bengaluru on Saturday to inaugurate a series of works costing Rs 1,074 crore and laid foundation stones for some other projects costing Rs 560 crore in his home district of Shivamogga.
Yediyurappa took the opportunity to rename the Shivamogga Agriculture University after the 17th century king, Keladi Shivappa Nayaka.
Local webcasting of all the functions that were virtually launched by the Chief Minister in Bengaluru were done at KuvempuRangamandira, Shivamogga and Sagar, Shikaripura, Thirthahalli, Bhadravathi and Shikaripura.
Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi, Agriculture Minister B C Patil, Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj, senior officials Rajkumar Khatri, Kapil Mohan, Selva Kumar, Pankaj Kumar Pande and others attended the Bengaluru function while in Shivamogga, Agriculture and district in-charge minister K S Eshwarappa and Lok Sabha member B Y Raghavendra, who is Yediyurpapa’s elder son, and others attended.
All projects involve a total outlay of Rs 1,804.89 crore include:
- Agriculture University in Iruvakki Village, Sagar taluk (Rs 155 cr);
- Water filling from Tungabhadra river to 249 lakes of Udugani, Hosuru, Thalagunda hoblis of Shikaripura taluk and 6 lakes of Hirekeruru taluk (Rs 850 cr);
- 100 ft ring road from Shivamogga city Railway Station compound linking Hosapete and Shivamogga National Highway (Rs 20 cr);
- Development works to provide tourist facilities at Jog Falls and development works at Botanical Park in Sakrebailu (Rs 205.89 cr);
- Construction of Shivamogga airport terminal, construction of NGO Quarters Annex 1 and 2 buildings next to Balraj Urs Road in Shivamogga city and smart road, intelligent traffic management system and safety solutions on Shivamogga-Savalanga-ShiralakoppaRaod (Total cost Rs 258.89 cr).
Indebted to Shivamogga, Shikaripura people
In his address from Bengaluru, Yediyurappa said he was extremely happy for doing the maximum work for the comprehensive development of the entire Shivamogga district during the last two years. ``I have made honest and best efforts to serve the people of Shivamogga district and Shikaripura taluk, which have given me political birth. I am indebted to them,’’ he said.
The Chief Minister said all the projects, especially the irrigation projects when completed, will transform the economic conditions of farmers of the entire district and the other projects, including the airport will give a boost to the entire region.
He pointed out that he had held video conference with Deputy Commissioners of eight districts across the State on the rain havoc on Friday and would conduct an aerial survey of Belagavi district, which had suffered heavily, on Sunday.
