Mangalore, Sep 18: The immersion procession of the idol of Lord Ganesha that was installed at Nehru Maidan in the city, was held on the evening of Friday September 17 amidst large crowds, attractive tableaux and religious fervour.
The procession, which began from Nehru Maidan at around 7 pm, wound through its pre-determined route, before reaching its final destination, Mahamayee temple tank near Car Street in the city, long after midnight. This is the last of the Sarvajanika Ganesha idols to be immersed in the city.
The procession was accompanied by dozens of attractive tableaux, some of which were operated with mechanical devices, bringing to life stories from Mahabharatha and other legends. Attractive fireworks succeeded in enthralling the milling crowds, which accompanied the procession and waited by the roadside to have a glimpse of the Lord’s idol being led with so much fanfare and devotional frenzy.
The traffic policemen had made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth passage of the procession. Several of the tableaux were from different regional units of Hindu Yuva Sene, district unit of which had installed the elephant god's idol at Nehru Maidan.
