Mangaluru: Police send back commuters from Kerala for no Covid negative report

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Police sent back hundreds of commuters from Kerala at Talapady border as they did not carry RTPCR negative report. Karnataka government has tightened security at Talapady border as cases of Covid are increasing in Kerala.

Keralites held road blockage against the rules of Karnataka state at Talapady border for 15 minutes. The protesters said that the sudden decision of Karnataka government has affected people of Kasargod, who depend on Mangaluru for employment, medical, education and other requirements. They urged the district administration to hold Covid tests at Talapady and allow them to enter Mangaluru. Manjeshwar police said that they will file case against people who blocked highway.

Dakshina Kannada district administration was holding Covid tests on Talapady border till the morning of Monday August 2. Those who have symptoms are subjected to RAT test. If they are found to be positive, they are sent back. Only in case of negative report local authority is informed of the same.

Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Dr Rajendra K V said that no person from Kerala will be allowed to enter Mangaluru without RTPCR test report. Additional police force will be deployed to implement the rule. Students from Kerala, who had come to Talapady to write the examinations of Mangaluru university were however, allowed to enter after they produced the hall ticket and college identification card.
