Chennai: KSP Meet Stresses on Need for Language Propagation

Chennai, Sep 20: The second day’s programme of the first literary and cultural convention organized by Tamil Nadu (TN) unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) was held here on Saturday September 18. It gave impetus to serious thinking while the first day was limited to the inaugural.

A symposium on the ‘Literary Contributions of TN to Kannada’, an appropriate and significant topic, was held on the second day of the convention on Sunday.
 
Kannada litterateur and retired professor V B Artikaje presided over the symposium.
 
Prof V B Artikaje, in his presidential address, called upon the gathering to set up a Tamil Kannada Snehavardhana Kendra similar to Sneha Vardhana Kendra of Pune in Maharastra.
 
He advised that importance be given to Kannada books authored by Kannadigas settled in all over the country under the bulk buying project.
 
Dravidian University retired professor V Gopalakrishna said that Madras which has been christened as Chennai, was the hub of multi-lingual lexicons who were engaged in producing dictionaries of western languages including German.  He urged the new generation to take interest in this field.
 
Prof Gopalakrishna also delivered a talk on the contributions of TN in compiling a Kannada dictionary.
 
Tamil Selvi, head of department, Kannada, Madras University, delivered a talk on TN contributions to research study.
 
Metro-based M C College assistant professor K Vishwanath spoke on the contributions of TN to Kannada anthology. 
 
Dravidian University head of department of Tulu Dr Shivakumar Bharanya said that B G L Swamy, was known for his classic books.
 
Dr Bharanya also spoke on the recent innovative Kannada literary contributions in TN.
 
Madras University research fellow Divya Jyothi compered the programme.
