Confirmation ceremony held for 85 candidates in Brahmavar church

Brahmavar, Aug 9: Confirmation ceremony was held for the 85 candidates of Holy Family Church, Brahmavar. Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, bishop of Diocese of Udupi conducted the confirmation service to the candidates on Sunday August 8.

In his homily, bishop said "Pigeon is a symbol of peace. Holy Spirit led Jesus Christ and Jesus followed Holy Spirit. With the strength of Holy Spirit, Jesus conquered temptations of evil. Today, we have received the blessings of Holy Spirit upon us. The Holy Spirit gives us power to overcome the temptations of Satan. Jesus had promised his disciples to send Holy Spirit after he learnt about their fear. On the day of Pentecost, Mother Mary and disciples of Jesus received Holy Spirit and spread the message of Jesus Christ all over. The Holy Spirit inspires us to be the evidence for the resurrected Christ."

Vows of the baptism were also renewed. Bishop conducted the confirmation ceremony and blessed the candidates with the holy oil.

Fr Victor Fernandes, OFM Cap, parish priest, and Fr Josile D'Silva, were the concelebrants on the occasion.

Michael Furtado, vice president, parish pastoral committee, Anthony Barnes, secretary, Robert Lewis, convener 20 commissions and parents of the candidates were present during the ceremony.

Anita D'Souza, convener, catechism commission, Dulsin and Juliana Furtado had conducted the classes and prepared candidates for the confirmation sacrament.
