Bengaluru, Aug 16: It is common for the cars, buses, trucks, auto rickshaws etc to have reverse gears. But for the first time, Ola electric scooters introduced in the market with a price tag of Rs 99,999 are equipped with reverse gears. Ola, a start-up company based in the city, has introduced this scooter to the market.
Heavier vehicles which stand firm on three or more wheels have reverse gears. As two-wheelers can be manoeuvred in short spaces or they can be lifted or pushed back and forth without much effort, they are not provided with reverse gears. Moreover, there is the risk of the rider losing balance when the two-wheelers are reversed.
Debate about the pros and cons of the two wheelers have begun. Chairman of the company, Bhavish Aggarwal said in a tweet that these scooters can be run on the reverse at unimaginable speeds and these are revolutionary in nature.
This new concept has been welcomed by many while others have questioned or criticized the new facility. The company says that the scooters can run at a speed of 115 km per hour, they can be charged at home, fast chargers charge the scooters fully in 40 minutes, the scooters run with reverse, hill hold function and driving modes and locking can be done without keys and theft attempts give rise to alarms.
