Sonipat, Sep 17: A six-year-old girl was found dead in a water tank in Haryana’s Sonipat, with her family alleging that her hands and feet had been tied. Police have detained a man in connection with the case.

According to the family, the girl was sleeping at home when she went missing during the night. They suspect that Sumit, who worked with them, took her while she was asleep. The family said a generator was running at the time and its noise may have prevented them from noticing her disappearance.

After failing to find the girl inside the house, family members searched the surrounding area and later discovered her body in a water tank.

The family alleged that the girl’s hands and feet were tied and that she was found without clothes. These claims are yet to be established by investigators.

Police said Sumit was found in an intoxicated state when he was taken into custody. He is being questioned as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The girl’s post-mortem examination is underway. Police said the cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received.
