Mangaluru, Aug 17: St Liguori’s Higher Primary School, Neermarga commemorated three quarters of a century of India’s Independence with sense of allegiance and bubbling enthusiasm.
To perpetuate the sovereignty of nation, chief guest Fr Anil Canute D’Mello, parish priest and correspondent of the school together with the guest of honour Gretta Vas, block resource person, Nafeesa, PTA president, Ravi Saldanha, vice president of parish pastoral council, Molly Baptist, headmistress, Molly Saldanha, member of the gram panchayat unfurled the national flag. As the tri-coloured flag fluttered majestically high overhead, the national anthem was sung with reverence and pride articulating the joy of liberty.
Fr Anil D’Mello stated, “It is our sacred duty to remain trustworthy citizens of India to lead and harbour this democratic and secular nation to make it a better place to live and experience freedom, peacefulness and unity in diversity. Freedom is inestimable and we should never fail to value it and preserve it whole heartedly,” which was highly illuminative and motivational. Rejoicing with the feeling of patriotism, national song Vande Mataram, an ode to the mother land was vocalized by the gathering.
Ruth Pinto welcomed the dignitaries and compered the programme. Molly Baptist proposed the vote of thanks.
