Jaison Crasta Mogarnad elected president of ICYM Mangalore diocese

Mangaluru, Aug 21: The ICYM Mangalore diocesan executive committee 2019-21 was handed over to the newly elected executive committee members on August 19 at Shanthi Kiran Bajjodi. The programme began with a prayer song led by ICYM Central Council members.

Jaison Lawrence Crasta, Mogarnad, was elected as the president.

Leon Loyd Saldanha, president, ICYM Mangalore diocese, welcomed the guests and the gathering. Veena Vas, diocesan general secretary, ICYM Mangalore diocese, read out the annual report of the year 2019-2021.

Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore diocese, presided over the handing over ceremony. Fr Santosh Rodrigues, director of the Pastoral Centre, Fr Ronald D'Souza, former diocesan youth director, Fr Ashwin Cardoza, director, ICYM Mangalore diocese, Leon Loyd Saldanha, Veena Vas, secretary, and the executive council were all present on the dais.

The year 2021-22 is a platinum jubilee year for ICYM Mangalore diocese. Inaugurating this jubilee year, Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha unveiled the 75th year logo.

Fr Santhosh Rodrigues in his speech appreciated the youth for their innovative thinking, creative work and expressed that the youth have led a trust worthy life. They have grabbled every single opportunity to work for the society and have been action oriented in their ministry, he said.

Thereafter, the bishop also released a special edition of ‘Amcho Yuvak’ book. The prizes to the winners of the Y-Shoot, poetry writing competition, and Bible quiz, were handed over by Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza and Fr Santhosh Rodrigues.

Fr Ronald Prakash D'Souza praised and congratulated Jaison Pereira, Leon Saldanha, and their entire team on the successful completion of Youth Year 2019 programmes.

ICYM central council executive and council members were honoured for their dedicated service in the years 2019-2021. Meanwhile, ten married couples were honoured for their noble service as diocesan executive members over the years.

President Leon Loyd Saldanha spoke about his experience and thanked all of the council members who had assisted him.

Fr Ashwin Cardoza congratulated Leon Saldanha and his committee for their tremendous work in the past two years and wished good luck for the new committee.

The old council officially handed over their responsibilities to the new council members for the year 2021-22.

The bishop in his presidential speech spoke about the great works that were done in the past two years. He specially congratulated Leon Saldanha for taking up the initiative of ‘Mission Share and Care’ along with the youth of Mangalore diocese during the pandemic.

The vote of thanks was rendered by Veena Vas. Ivy Melisha D'Souza, Derebail, compered the programme. A total of 100 youth were present for the programme. The programme concluded with ICYM anthem.
