Aug 29: Dakshina Kannada records 202 new cases and 3 deaths; Udupi adds 96

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 29: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday August 29 reported 202 new coronavirus cases and three deaths, while Udupi registered 96 new cases and no death.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 15,31,455 samples have been tested so far, out of which 14,21,846 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,09,609, out of which 2,416 are currently active.

As many as 348 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,05,626.

The district recorded three deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,567, out of which five are non-Covid deaths.

The positivity rate in the district stands at 1.81%.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,04,63,520 as fine in 86,087 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 9,50,552 samples have been tested so far.

As many as 96 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 73,645, out of which 1,546 are currently active.

A total of 139 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 71,650.

Out of 96 new patients, 73 are in home isolation while 23 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 96, as many as 58 are symptomatic and 38 asymptomatic.

While Udupi taluk reported 62 of the 96 cases, Kundapur recorded 17, Karkala 16, and one from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 449 lives in the district so far. No death was reported on Sunday.

So far, 6,74,858 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 2,55,483 have received the second dose.

A total of 52 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the distrinct so far, out of which, 2 are currently active.
