Udupi: Janmastami celebrations at Krishna Math - Paryaya Swamiji offers Arghya

Udupi, Aug 31: Srikrishna Janmastami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna as per Hindu calendar, was celebrated in an atmosphere of devotion and gratefulness at Krishna Math here. Paryaya Sri Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji offered Arghya (libation) to the Lord in the early hours of Tuesday August 31.

The Paryaya Swamiji offered Tulsi twigs to the Lord on this occasion on Monday night. After performing the Mahapuja, he, along with Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishnapur Math, Admar Sri Vishwapriya .Theertha Swamiji, and Kaniyooor Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha .Swamiji, offered Arghya to the Lord at moonrise inside the sanctum sanctorum and then offered Arghya to the moon god at the Tulsi platform.

Thereafter, the devotees were allowed to offer Arghya. On the entire day on Monday, various programmes were held at Krishna Math as part of Janmastami celebrations.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, religious programmes were held with safety precautions as per guidelines. Arrangements were made for the public to offer Arghya to Srikrishna at two spots on car street here.

Vittal Pindi, which is celebrated to re-enact the divine sports indulged in by Lord Srikrishna in His childhood, is being celebrated on Tuesday. The festivities will be celebrated in traditional way and the public have been barred from entering the car street during this time. The Vittal Pindi will be held in traditional manner in the presence of the people associated with the Maths and a limited number of devotees.
