Shivamogga, Sep 5: Congress workers on Sunday September 5 staged a protest against BJP during the foundation stone laying programme for various development works. The programme was attended by Karnataka public works department minister C C Patil and district in-charge minister K S Eshwarappa.

The incident was reported during foundation stone laying for the new railway overbridge, development of national highway, and construction of a new bridge in Shivamogga.

Congress workers alleged that Congress MLC R Prasanna Kumar, and local municipal council member Yumuna Gowda were not invited for the programme, and that it was a violation of protocol.

Congress workers raised slogans against BJP leaders and exhibited black flags as a mark of protest, while the minister was laying the foundation for the construction of railway overbridge. The Congress workers raised slogans against the state government.

In response, the BJP party workers who were present at the programme raised slogans in favor of the Modi government.

The police of Kote station intervened and detained the protesters.

When the police tried to detain R Prasanna Kumar, Eshwarappa welcomed him on to the stage. City corporation ruling party president Chennabasappa protested against this and remarked that people who protested were on stage. A verbal clash then erupted between Prasanna Kumar and Chennabasappa on the stage, after which Prasanna left the programme venue in a huff. However, Eshwarappa and MP Raghavendra pacified him and invited him on to the stage again.
