Udupi, Sep 8: “Reservation to the community is important to me rather than minister or chief minister. My intention is to provide education to the poor. Including Lingayat Panchamasali community, other sects of Lingayats should provide 2A reservation. Also, the Lingayat community should be included under OBC reservation of the union government. Time to prepare the report till September 15 was sought earlier. The reservation should be announced by October 1. If failed, an agitation will be observed at Freedom Park in Bengaluru,” said Kudala Sangama Lingayat Panchamasali Mahapita's Sri Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swamiji.

Swamiji also started the Panchamasali Prathijna Panchayat Bhruhth Rajya Abhiyana.

He was speaking at a press meet in Udupi Press Club here on Wednesday September 8.

“I am not in favour or opposition to any governments. I am in favour of people. It is our duty to seek our rights. Present chief minister Basavaraj Bommai is intelligent. There is assurance that he will make the right decision. Some forces are waiting to curtail my padayatra and the campaign.

“There are 110 sects in the Lingayat community of which 34 sects have got 2A and 12 sects have got 2B reservation. Other sects are deprived of reservation. In this regard, a letter has been written to the Backward Classes Commission. The commission has sought time. I should complete my campaign across the state before the commission submits a report.

Totally, 10 lac people of the community are demanding the rights,” he said.

UC Nirajan president of district Sharana Sahitya Parishad, Siddarama president of Udupi Basava Samiti and others were present.
