Mumbai, Sep 10 (IANS): One person has been arrested in connection with the shocking rape and brutalisation of a 30-year-old woman in Mumbai late on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

According to police, after raping the women in Khirani Road area of Sakinaka, the accused allegedly pushed a rod into her genitals before escaping.

Sakinaka Police Station's Senior Police Inspector Balwant Deshmukh said that the accused, identified as local, Madhu Chavan, 45, has been arrested and is being interrogated in connection with the dastardly crime.

The victim, who was found bleeding profusely, was rushed in a critical condition to the BMC's Rajawadi Hospital, but Deshmukh declined to comment on her health status, saying "she remains under treatment".

Top police officials rushed to the spot for investigations, and to nab the others involved, in the crime that came on the eve of the state's biggest festival Ganeshotsav which started on Friday.

The Mumbai govt is doing a great job unlike as you mentioned. Its the problem with the people s mundset. Unless death penalty is given for rape, till then nothing will change, i am sure you are aware of the cd case in bangalore. Also if govt passes a rule of death penalty, it will take 100 years to prove it in the court. Until then the complainant or rape victim dies. If a rule is passed, judgement should be swift.

I I hope the Crime Branch staff who are exceptionally good at their job will ensure to catch the real culprit or hang this Chavan SOB in a public square for all to witness the consequence of a dastardly rape and that too on Khairani road in Asalpha Ghatkopar suburb of Bombay that is so jam packed with people and traffic and all illegal people and activities at all times. Only this action can bring about a change to the law makers and keepers in Bombay. I feel very sad for the victim how she was brutalised by whoever this brute is. The same treatment must be meted out if Bombay wants to keep its good name out of The next rape city of the world! I want to point out we should have full containment for these rapists 1. PREVENTION-Changing the mindset of people means to teach to respect them, being in limits, education on reproductive heath its worser consquenses when raped more NGO ogranisation to educate and put a horror in mind that how they raped others what if this can happen to their relatives, family or them 2.treatment-such people can be treated by making tougher laws for more sentences or given death penalty if someone young had commited crime he must have counselling for it in jail educating him of horrors he did.
