Sullia, Sep 30: The Sullia court had served a warrant seeking Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar's presence in the court to adduce evidence in a case filed in this court. The case pertains to verbal friction over phone which took place between Sai Giridhar Rai from Bellare and the then energy minister, D K Shivakumar, over the power supply problem faced by the region.

As Shivakumar was repeatedly absenting from appearance, the court had served warrant. But he failed to make an appearance on Wednesday upon which a fresh warrant was issued. Judge of the court, taking serious view of the repeated absence of the former minister, had asked the inspector general of police and director and inspector general on September 13 to ensure that Shivakumar is produced in the court on September 29. But Shivakumar, it is learnt, had left for New Delhi and hence could not attend the court.

For the third time, the court issued a warrant to Shivakumar, asking him to be present in the court on November 6, duly taking serious note of his continued absence.

Former president of Bellare Merchants Association, Sai Giridhar Rai, frustrated by power problems in the region, had called the then energy minister, D K Shivakumar, on the night of February 28, 2016. During this call, verbal friction had taken place between the two. Shivakumar had then directed Sullia Mescom in-charge assistant executive engineer, Harish Naik, to file a police complaint against Rai. The police who registered the case, had arrested Rai on the same night by removing the tiles of his house. This news had hit headlines then.

Shivakumar, being a witness, is required to record his evidence in the case. He was served with summons thrice and warrant once but he remained absent. Now, the new judge has issued a third warrant for his presence.
